THE FIFTH INSTAR

Plastic, body and electronic pulses merge.

Watch the performance film
Black-and-white photograph: a performer in pale clothing kneels and arches back, face lifted toward broad translucent sheets that sweep past the body across a dark studio.

Cocoon

Three translucent plastic sheets become cocoon, skin and wing. The moving body twists, pushes and cuts through the material, making and unmaking its enclosure.

Skin

Movement meets the breathing electronics of Nils Frahm’s “All Melody”. The surfaces swell, surge forward and snap open, shifting between tension and release.

In cold white light, a dancer in pale clothing lunges with both arms lifted among translucent bands stretched across the stage.
Under purple light, a body in pale clothing stands among the bands, the upper band hiding the head, the feet reflected in the floor.

Wing

An elastic exchange of tension and release.

Egg, larva, pupa, moth, reproduction: the work draws on images of a silkworm’s metamorphosis. Transformation unfolds as an elastic exchange between body, material and sound.
